Almost every woman going through menstrual periods can attest to receiving visits from pimples.
Women’s monthly pimples are caused by secretion of hormones like progesterone and estrogen which results in the production of sebum, an oily substance which is meant to lubricate the skin.
The skin is more sensitive at that time of the month; hence, breakouts occur when sebum is mixed with dead skin cells making the pores clogged.
Below are 5 ways to control menstrual pimples:
- Keep Your Hands Away
The inability to remove your hands from your pimpled face aids the movement of bacteria and dirt from the hands to the oily face.
Keep your hands away from your face as often as possible and wash your hands before applying makeup.
- Birth control
Birth control pills slow down the production of estrogen and progesterone, the hormones which cause the production of excess oil.
Birth control pills can reduce the risk of getting breakouts for some but not for everyone.
- Shower after working out
Make sure to shower after your workout session to prevent sweat buildup and bacteria from mixing with the oil on your already sensitive face.
- Clean your phone screen
Dust and different bacteria make phone screens their residence. Contact with your face while dirty is the same case as caressing your face with dirty hands.
Do your face a favour, clean your phone screen.
- Grow older
Hormone secretion decreases with age, which essentially means that the sensitivity of your skin reduces as you grow older.
This does not mean that you cannot have breakouts as an older person but the chances are reduced.
