Pastor Adeboye Retires As General Overseer Of RCCG

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has retired as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Nigeria.

Pastor Johnson Odesola, Special Assistant to Pastor Adeboye on Administration and Personnel, said at the time that the church’s constitution did not state that anyone above 70 years should not lead the ministry.

“Whereas the constitution provided that the deputy and assistant general overseers are appointed to retire at 70 and enjoy their retirement benefits for life, there is no such provision for the general overseer,” he said.

Pastor J.O. Obayemi has been named as Adeboye’s replacement.

General Overseer RCCG

Pastor Obayemi was a deputy in charge of Finance and a member of governing council, before his appointment as the General Overseer.

The Church in further clarification through a press statement signed by Leke Adeboye, on Saturday 7 explained that Pastor Adeboye remained the GO of RCCG Worldwide.
Leke Adeboye, the GO’s son and Personal Assistant said: “the clarification is coming on the heels of misrepresentation of Pastor E. A Adeboye’s announcement at the Annual Ministers Thanksgiving held at the redemption camp”.

Leke Adeboye said that the Church in Nigeria was now to be led by Pastor Joseph Obayemi.

The statement clarified that “the latest development is a sequel to the new legal requirements set up by the Financial Regulations Council, guiding all registered mosques, churches and CSOs.

“The regulation stipulates that heads of nonprofit organisations like churches now have a maximum period of 20 years to lead their organisations while in retirement, they are not permitted to hand over to their families”.

The statement also reiterated that Pastor Funsho Odesola will now serve as the new Church Secretary, while Pastor Joseph Adeyokunu is the new Church Treasurer.

The statement advised all members of RCCG “to understand this new structure and go about their service to God and humanity in holiness and soul winning.”
