Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Majority Leader of the House of Rep, yesterday stated that he has subjected himself to investigation over budget-padding allegations.
The speaker, who for the 2nd time denied any involvement in the alleged padding fraud, added that the principal officers who were accused in the alleged fraud deserve a benefit of doubt.
According to him, the Speaker and other principal officers had at their executive meeting denied allegations levied against them by the sacked chairman, Hon. Abdumumini of the House committee on Appropriation. The House Leader described speculations that he sponsored the petitioner, Hon. Abdumumini Jibrin to levy such huge allegations against Speaker Dogara and others as false
“This is very important to me as insinuations are made of several quarters that I, together with others were sponsoring Hon Jibrin. I have just this afternoon met with the authorities of the police for a correct and thorough investigation of my role (if any) in this whole bizzare episode,” he said.
Although Gbajabiamila wasn’t affected in the alleged fraud, he said it was vital to make himself available for investigation therefore to clear his name from the alleged scam. He however said that the sack of Hon. Abdulmumini as the committee chairman was a unanimous decision.
“At the meeting Speaker Dogara, Hon Ado Dogwa, Deputy Speaker Lasun , Chief Whip, and minority leader, Hon Leo Ogor passionately and clearly expressed their innocence. A ready text was scan and that we all unanimously signed. On behalf of me because the Leader of the House I felt it had been necessary to offer them the benefit of doubt which in any case is what our constitution says. To relieve Hon Jibrin was indeed a unanimous decision of that i used to be a part of.”
Meanwhile, Abdulmumini , the petitioner has urged the anti-graft agencies and the Nigerian Police to be more watchful, as he accused Speaker Dogara of doing everything possible to erase evidences against him and other accused principal officers.
