Ibuprofen is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) that is commonly used to treat pain and fever. It is readily available over the counter and very effective.
However, like many other medications, Ibuprofen comes with its own scary adverse effects.
Did you know:
- That Ibuprofen can cause gastrointestinal bleeding that may become fatal?
This is one reason doctors always advise that Ibuprofen is taken with food. The drug can irritate the lining of the stomach and cause ulcers.
This could become life threatening.
- Recently, Ibupr0fen made the news when researchers established that using the drug for up to one week can significantly increase the risk of a heart attack in patients with or without heart disease.
Other NSAIDS that can cause the same effect include Naproxen, Celecoxib, Rofecoxib, and Diclofenac (Cataflam).
- Ibupr0fen also has a myriad of other side effects like vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn, dizziness, hypertension, etc.
Note: Ibuprofen is not the only NSAID with these effects. It is, however, the most likely to be abused and used recklessly without a prescription, increasing the risk for the above outcomes.
Disclaimer: The adverse effects of Ibuprofen or other NSAIDS have nothing to do with the pictured brands. The parent drug itself is the culprit in these deleterious outcomes.
