The Chairman of Channels Media group, Mr John Momoh has been elected as the Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON)
At the annual delegate conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Mr Momoh polled fifty one votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Abbas Dalhatu of Freedom Radio, Kano who scored twelve votes.
This is the first time a private TV media owner would be holding this position.
The Channels TV Boss, in his acceptance speech, said that BON is yet to earn its due respect among professional bodies in Nigeria, 30 years when it was established.
“BON is just like the proverbial goose that lays the golden egg but isn’t accorded its due respect.
“For those 30 years, BON has not earned the level of an enormous player in matters that directly have an effect on its membership. Other smaller bodies have ridden roughshod over its members.
“The leadership i provide, which you have supported by your votes today, is determined to handle these and influence a brand new thinking, a new respect and a new vision for us all as professional broadcasters”, he added.
He further added that through collaboration, “we shall tackle common challenges frontally and success is assured.
“We shall shape the future of our industry and provides fresh hopes to the future generations of Nigerian Broadcasters”, he noted.
He further noted that in the next 2 years, “I hope, in fact with your support, to steer this noble body to hitherto unthinkable heights.
“Collectively, we shall begin a speedy development of the broadcast industry in Nigeria whereas holding cutting-edge technologies to match our counterparts around the world.
“Together, we shall shape the future of our industry and provide fresh hopes to the future generations of Nigerian broadcasters.
“Through collaboration, we shall tackle common challenges frontally and success is assured”.
He further maintained that the immediate focus of his administration is going to define a new line of thoughts using the T.A.I.T Agenda
Furthermore, Mr Momoh noted that his administration also intends to start a systematic but definite method of restructuring of the secretarial operations of the Association to infuse a brand new orientation which will lead to a new focus and direction in the coming days.
