For supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming Edo governorship election, David Agberemole,a landlord has evicted no fewer than five tenants in his house settled in Uzea Community, Esan North East local government area of the state.
Expressing their grief, the NATION reports that the tenants, Okosun Christiana, Mr Sylvester Chukwuemeka and Ogbeide Elizabeth, said that they had suffered immense hardship from their landlord for not supporting the Peoples Democratic Party, that the owner has sympathy.
One of the tenants, Okosun Christiana who spoke in her local dialect said, “We don’t have any problem, just party differences, he told us he wished everyone in the house to support PDP, because he is a member of the party, but I declined.
“I told him that I have been supporting APC for a very long time that even if the PDP is buying me a car, I prefer to stay in the APC, and he said since that is my stand; I should consider myself evicted from his house,” She explained.
Also speaking, another of the evicted tenants, Sylvester Chukwuemeka, disclosed that his rents were up to date, adding that the action of their landlord nullifies the principle of fair play and justice simply because they refused to support the opposition party.
“I don’t understand why the landlord will just decide to evict us out of his house because we do not support PDP. I pay my rent frequently and this is unfair to me.
“The state government should come to our rescue because I don’t understand when it became against the law to support a party.” Chukwuemeka laments
Mr. Chukwuemeka charged t authority to come to their rescue even as the Acting executive Chairman of Edo State internal revenue Service, barrister Emmanuel Usoh, according to the report, has given the tenants some cash and bags of cement to build their own houses.
