Ronaldo Named FIFA’s Best Men’s Player Of 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal and Real Madrid forward, was named FIFA’s Best Men’s Player for 2016 on Monday, beating Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann on the three-man shortlist to claim the prize in Zurich.

Ronaldo won the award on the back of a fantastic year that saw Real Madrid win the UEFA Champions League and Portugal the EURO 2016 championship.

The Best FIFA Men’s Player award is voted for by each of F!FA’s 211 nations comprising the national team captain, manager, a journalist from every F!FA nation, and fans registered on FIFA.com with each group holding 25% of electoral weight for a player’s performances from November 20, 2015, to November 22, 2016.

Ronaldo earned 34.54% of total votes while Messi finished second with 26.42% and Greizmann was third at 7.53%.
