Alkali Mohammed, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), met his untimely death in the hands of suspected political thugs in the Omoku area of Rivers state, on Saturday.
Officer Mohammed’s orderly, who was with him at the time of the unfortunate incident, was also killed,
The commander of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Kasimu Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement.
Abdulkarim said the attackers laid an ambush for the deceased officers, who were on duty during the legislative rerun exercise.
Abdulkarim added that while three policemen escaped, five officers had been declared missing.
There was widespread violence during the election.
